The Nicest Car Collection in New England

Friday, September 22, 2017

As summer comes to an end and fall is right around the corner, I thought I'd catch up on some posts (before I procrastinate even more). We made a trip to Paris Hill, Maine back in mid July for Founder's Day. The event takes place on the Village Green in the adorable, historic town that features a private collection of some of the most rare and valuable cars owned by Bob Bahre, founder of the New Hampshire Speedway and one loaded old man. Once a year, Mr. Bahre opens up his sixty car collection of classic and vintage cars, carriages, motorcycles and antiques but mostly- gorgeous automobiles and probably the nicest collection in New England.

It was really fun walking around Mr. Bahre's gorgeous property in the mountains of Maine and admiring cars we could only dream of owning. My favorite was that beautiful burgandy and silver 1933 Auburn right in his main driveway. What an eye catcher!

After enjoying the 70 degree mid July day admiring cars and antiques, we spent the evening in the quaint mountain town of Bethel where we stayed at an adorable Bed and Breakfast and had a great dinner in town. The next day we did what we do best, drive around. We came across a really odd wooden pipe bursting with water, a suspension bridge, a lobster shack and a barn antique shop.

I found a copper pot and a classroom book in the barn dating back to 1892 from Belgrade, Maine (the teacher in me had to have it, plus it had a hand written classroom award in it and I love imagining the hands it went through in its century of being tossed around until it ended up on the shelf of that antique shop)

It was another great summer weekend getaway and although we didn't get to drive off in a vintage Rolls, we had plenty of fun memories to make up for it (at least that's what I keep telling myself)!
