Just Another Weekend, Maine Style

Tuesday, November 7, 2017

I love living in a place where the weekends feel like a vacation. You just can't beat summer in Maine. Bangor in particular, I think, is the gateway to the best parts of Maine- the Highlands, aka God's country and Down East, home to Acadia National Park and some of the best coastline in the country. One of our late July weekends we decided to take a trip up to Moosehead Lake area to spot the biggest animal in Maine, the sasquatch. But before the start of our weekend, we hit the local Penobscot River for some small mouth bass with the fly rods thanks to our friend and fishing guide, Kevin McKay.

It was a great day on the river and a perfect way to welcome the weekend. The next day, we headed up to Greenville to see if we could catch a glimpse of that infamous Maine moose (sorry if you thought we were really going to see a sasquatch), stopping along the way per usual for the beautiful scenery.

We rented a canoe to see if we could spot one from the water, but unfortunately no moose. Just a bunch of dang water and mountain views, what a waste...

So we hopped in the car and drove around a bit more and just before dusk, we spotted one right at the edge of the woods! She was quick to retreat into the trees (like ol sasquatch) but we managed to get a picture.

Satisfied with our goal, we meandered back, passing through the quaint 'town' of Kokadjo and snagging some sweet raspberries everywhere we stopped, ending with a beautiful sunset overlooking Moosehead Lake.

It was another great weekend, exploring this wicked awesome state! Does summer have to come to an end?? (oh wait, it's November already...)
