Trailer Trash Goes to Fancy Party

Thursday, January 18, 2018

For Chris' birthday this year (err last year) I bought tickets to this fancy party, rich folk like to call a 'Gala'. The Audrain Auto Museum hosted the event at Ochre Court, the second largest mansion in Newport, over looking the bay on a beautiful September evening. The theme for the gala was "Celebrating the End of Prohibition" with speakeasy style cocktails, flapper girls with vintage candy trays and one heck of a fancy car collection! The moment we walked onto the estate, we were greeted with champagne while being escorted down the grand entrance to the courtyard for our dinner seating arrangements and a few casino chips. We tried to play it cool as we walked around in awe, but hot damn was it nice!

We made our way to the back of the mansion where the cocktails and h'orderves were served with a side of kickass cars while we waited for dinner. Oh, and Jay Leno was going to be the guest speaker. JAY freaking LENO.

As the evening went on, the iPhone quality got worse, but the night got better! At dinner, Chris chatted with Wayne Carini, from one of his favorite shows, Chasing Classic Cars and I chatted with Newport's finest and goffed at all those poor folk living in trailers....muahaha oh how terrible their life must be..(I live in a trailer if you didn't catch the sarcasm).  I also threatened Chris' life if he threw up his paddle during the bidding...unlike the lady next to me whose husband bid on a trip to Jay's garage for $30,000, poor soul.

After a delicious dinner we headed into the mansion for the real party. We snagged a pic with Jay, then grabbed a martini and hit the dance floor. We took a break for the dessert room and a quick bout of blackjack then meandered around the mansion again, admiring the cars and taking in the moment.

We thoroughly enjoyed getting booshie and stepping back in time to the roaring twenties at the gorgeous mansion by the sea, and will fondly reminisce from our cozy trailer for years to come. Cheers to the end of prohibition! (did I hit it outta the park for Chris' bday??)
